Eastman to Showcase New Test Data for BioExtend™ 30 at National Biodiesel Conference & Expo 2008
Eastman Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of BioExtend Launch
Orlando, Fla. (January 31, 2008) — Eastman Chemical Company will showcase new test data of Eastman BioExtend 30 at the 2008 National Biodiesel Conference & Expo in Orlando, Fla. at booths 119-218.The new test data will be presented by Dr. Sharon Cline, Eastman’s BioExtend technology leader, on Monday, Feb. 4, 2008 from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Eastman will also be celebrating the one year anniversary of the BioExtend launch, which debuted at 2007’s National Biodiesel Conference.
BioExtend , a high-performance antioxidant for biodiesel fuels, increases shelf life and enhances product protection. Biodiesel, a renewable fuel manufactured from vegetable oils and animal fats, is susceptible to oxidative processes that can cause rancidity. The oxidative stability of biodiesel can be improved by the use of antioxidants. Eastman will showcase several investigations of antioxidants which demonstrate its effectiveness in combating oxidation.
"We are eager to share our test data at the 2008 National Biodiesel Conference & Expo,” says Dr. Cline. “Eastman hopes the new findings will help the marketplace make informed decisions on how to improve the oxidative stability of biodiesel.”
The testing explored a number of factors that affect the natural oxidative stability of biodiesel including feedstock choice, the production process, product handling, and contaminants. The impact of metal contamination was investigated using the Oil Stability Index (OSI) as a measure of oxidative stability. Biodiesel handling issues, including air intrusion, UV exposure and storage temperature, was also investigated. In addition to OSI, UV absorbance, peroxide value, and Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) were measured.
