Doboy Upgrades Controls Package on Medical Grade Band Sealer for Sterile Environments

  • Band Sealer now available with Allen Bradley MicroLogix PLC system
  • External temperature calibration points allow easy temperature verification
  • Band break detection function enhances process control

Doboy, a Bosch Packaging Technology Company, presents the CBS DM-medical grade continuous band sealer for heat sealing sterile packages in cleanroom environments. The sealer regulates and displays temperature, pressure and speed and provides a secure seal essential for medical pouches and other sterile applications. The sealer processes all forms of heat sealable pre-made bags, in tube style or gusseted format.

The CBS DM is now equipped with an optional controls package that features an Allen Bradley MicroLogix PLC system. A Panel View operator interface allows enhanced accessibility with a high degree of functionality for recipe storage, data logging and password protection. The system is designed to account for the stringent regulatory and validation requirements of medical and sterile packaging applications as it monitors any deviation from parameters and controls alarms.

External temperature calibration points enable easy monitoring of four individual heating bars. The operator can connect a temperature sensor to each port and verify temperature accuracy against the sealer’s temperature controller.

Thermocouple sensors embedded within the heater cartridges assure high- accuracy temperature monitoring to sense deviation from set points. Heating bars, cooling bars and compression wheels guarantee a secure seal.

A new band break detection function senses breakage of the Teflon® bands. This feature prevents further operation of the machine. Band changes on the CBS DM are performed in a matter of minutes without tools. The entire sealing section can be removed quickly for service and replacement, minimizing downtime.

The mainframe is constructed from stainless steel and aluminum with a floor stand made of tubular stainless steel, and incorporates a hand crank for vertical height adjustment. Guards are made of stainless sheet metal and polycarbonate.

“As improved diagnostics and process control are increasingly the norm, medical device and other healthcare product manufacturers require packaging technology that offers reliability and sterility,” says Ray Johnson, Product Line Manager at Doboy. “The CBS DM sealer is a solution that accommodates the stringent validation and quality requirements for healthcare applications.”
